Flights Azores
For most visitors, flying is the only way to reach the Azores, and also the most reliable way to move between islands that are further apart, where a ferry isn’t a practical option.
Flights to the Azores
Ponta Delgada, on São Miguel, is the archipelago’s main international airport, with direct connections to Lisbon, Porto and several European and North American destinations. Terceira and Faial also have airports with regular mainland connections.
Inter-island flights
All nine islands have an airport, and inter-island flights — operated mainly by the regional Azorean airline — are the fastest way to combine islands that are further apart in a single itinerary, especially those in the Western Group (Flores and Corvo).
When to book
Inter-island flights have limited capacity and fill up quickly in summer, so it’s worth booking well in advance whenever your itinerary depends on a specific flight connection, especially to Corvo, which is only served from Flores.
