Itineraries in the Azores

Rate this article

With nine islands spread across more than 600 km of ocean, planning an Azores itinerary means making choices: is it better to focus your trip on a single island and explore it in depth, or visit several in one trip? This page brings together the most requested itineraries, organised by length and by island, to help you decide how to structure your travel days.

Single-island itineraries

For anyone with 3 to 4 days available, focusing the trip on a single island means exploring at a relaxed pace without losing time travelling between airports. São Miguel, Faial and Terceira are the most requested islands for this type of itinerary, each with a very different pace and set of attractions.

Multi-island itineraries

Anyone with more than a week to spare benefits from combining islands in the Central Group — Faial, Pico and São Jorge are just minutes apart by ferry, making it possible to visit all three without relying on internal flights. A 7-day itinerary across the archipelago is the most common way to experience the Azores for the first time, usually combining São Miguel with a second island.

Before you book

It’s always worth checking inter-island connections (flights or ferries) before finalising your itinerary, since flight and ferry frequency varies by season and can affect how many islands it’s realistic to include in a single trip.
